Driving Smart Mobility
The Gilgit-Baltistan IT Board is ushering in a new era of smart and efficient transportation through the power of technology. With the region’s unique terrain and growing mobility needs, the Board is focusing on modern digital solutions to improve transportation infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and ensure safer travel across Gilgit-Baltistan. A major initiative includes the digitization of vehicle registration and licensing systems in collaboration with the Excise and Taxation Department. This shift to online services has streamlined processes for citizens, allowing them to apply for vehicle documents, renew licenses, and verify ownership details without long queues or paperwork. To support safer roads, the GB IT Board is working on traffic monitoring systems that integrate digital surveillance and data analytics to identify traffic patterns and reduce congestion in urban areas. These tools are also helping local authorities to better enforce traffic laws and respond more effectively to road incidents. Additionally, efforts are underway to develop public transport tracking applications, which will allow residents and tourists to get real-time updates on bus routes, timings, and availability—making transportation more reliable and accessible. The Board is also investing in smart parking and e-ticketing systems, aiming to improve convenience for drivers and commuters while minimizing environmental impact and administrative burden. By aligning transportation services with digital innovation, the GB IT Board is not only improving mobility but also building the foundation for a smarter, safer, and more sustainable transport ecosystem in Gilgit-Baltistan.
